Brett Kaufman, 美国加州大学洛杉矶分校寇岑考古中心博士，（
Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, University of California, Los Angeles），主要从事早期国家、人类学、冶金考古研究。
This lecture tracks the metallurgical progressions of Levantine cultures from the earliest adoption of tin bronze in the Bronze Age in ~2300 BC until the destruction of Carthage in 146 BC from a cultural evolutionary perspective. Research into Bronze Age cultures in the Levant from ~2300-1530 BC demonstrates that tin bronze was adopted for its greater fuel efficiency over other potential alloys. By the the Iron Age, empires such as those of the Phoenicians and Carthaginians were geared completely toward the extraction of metals across the Mediterranean. This lecture will present some key relationships between state formation, cultural ecology, resource exploitation, and archaeometallugy in the Near Eastern and Mediterranean world.
